After completing his juris doctor at the University of North Dakota in 1984, Kevin Napper became an assistant state attorney with the State’s Attorney office in Grand Forks, North Dakota. While there, he handled a wide range of criminal matters, from drug cases to first degree murder trials. After a year in that role, Mr. Napper took a job with a law firm in Newburyport, Massachusetts before moving to Tampa, Florida.
From 1987 through 1993, he worked for the Pinellas County State’s Attorney office, and then the Tampa State’s Attorney office. He joined Carlton Fields in 1995, after two years with the law firm of Bavol and Vogt.
Mr. Napper has worked in the areas of white collar criminal defense, complex civil trial law, and internal and governmental investigations for nearly 30 years. He has represented executives and public companies in Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations, handled qui tam/whistleblower defense work, and defended diverse clients in medical malpractice suits. His notable cases include United States of America v. Evaschuk and Voronsoff v. Respectable Street, Inc.
Mr. Napper was the 2012 recipient of the President’s Commendation from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and listed in the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Business Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Napper is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a former president of both the Tampa chapter of the Federal Bar Association and the Herbert G. Goldburg Criminal Law Inn of Court. He regularly serves as a panelist, speaker, presenter and program chair at symposiums and conferences across the country.
